Gram Nirman Kelvani Mandal (GNKM) was established in 1966 with a few students of the primary department. And now the journey of 60 years has grown like a banyan tree. In the journey of 60 years, all the educational and non-educational staff who came from local and outside and helped the development of the institution have made a huge contribution. Today, under Gram Nirman Kelvani Mandal, P.M. Shri Krishna Ashramshala, P.M. Shri Primary School Thawa Branch, P.M. Shri Eklavya Sadhana Uttar Buniyadi Vidyalaya, Nutan Gram Vidyapith (BRS) College, Jai Jalaram Training Graduate Mahavidyalaya (B.ed) College, Balhans College of Social Work (MSW) College and Kanuba BSW College are functioning. Apart from this, separate hostels are available for boys and girls of each department.
Balhans College of Social Work was established in the year 2021. Students from tribal areas had to go to Bhavnagar and Rajkot to get social work education. Therefore, with the efforts of the founder of the institution, Shri Mansingh Dada and the trustees, Balhans College of Social Work was started on 17th August 2021 with the aim of providing Quality education in the field of social work, started MSW course in Gujarati medium for the students of Bharuch, Narmada, Tapi districts of South Gujarat at the local level.
The dream of college building came into reality with the financial support of Shree Hansaben Mehta and Balkrushnabhai mehta, A Mumbai based donner and well-wisher of the our institution. and that is why the names of both the dignitaries have been shortened and named Balhans College of Social Work in order to keep the memory of the names of Balakrishnabhai and Hansaben alive. The institution continues to receive help from Pujya Hansa Ba whenever it is needed.
By June 2025, two batches of MSW students have passed and are serving the society. The college has achieved 100% pass rate since its inception. 99% of the students in the classroom are from the tribal community and more than 70% of the total students are girls joining MSW training. Thus, the college and the institution are striving to realize both the objectives of tribal welfare and girl child education. 100% government scholarship is given to the weaker section students. Separate hostel facilities are available for girls and boys at the college campus. There is a system of imparting education using ICT technology by qualified and experienced staff as per the norms of UGC.
